LAWMAKERS SHOW STRONG HOUSE SUPPORT FOR ACTION ON DREAMERS

(Washington, D.C.) – Yesterday, it was reported that a bipartisan majority of members of the House of Representatives came out in support of debating and voting on immigration legislation this year. Led by Representatives Jeff Denham (R-CA), Pete Aguilar (D-CA), and Will Hurd (R-TX), this group called for floor action on four different bills that would address the Dreamers, border security, and other aspects of the immigration challenge.

On Tuesday, The LIBRE Initiative and Freedom Partners Chamber of Commerce launched a joint campaign to encourage passage of legislation that provides relief to the Dreamers, and enhanced border security for the nation. That campaign includes paid media, grassroots outreach, congressional contact, and educational programs.

Daniel Garza, President of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

“We applaud the strong showing today in the House to continue to bring this issue forward. This broad, bipartisan majority reflects the will of the House to debate this issue, and to work toward a permanent solution for the Dreamers. We now call on the congressional leadership to do their job and bring a bill to the floor that can gather bipartisan support. We’ve seen what it will take to accomplish that: a bill that delivers on certainty for the Dreamers and security for the nation.”

Freedom Partners Executive Vice President Nathan Nascimento released the following statement:

“We’re encouraged by the bipartisan House effort to unite around a permanent solution for Dreamers and the work of Reps. Denham, Aguilar and Hurd at the forefront of the movement. Big problems like this require real leadership. We urge the congressional leadership from both parties to take note and step up.

“There’s a deal at hand: a permanent solution for Dreamers and enhanced border security for all. Congress should seize the moment now. It’s right for Dreamers who live and work here. It’s what the American people demand. And it’s too important to delay any longer. This is a top priority and we will continue to aggressively press both Republicans and Democrats until they address it once and for all.”
