Los estadounidenses están sufriendo bajo el peso opresor de un regulación excesiva. Las empresas están siendo estranguladas por la burocracia y los individuos se enfrentan a grandes y crecientes limitaciones a su libertad personal, en casi todos los aspectos de sus vidas. Tal exceso de regulación incita al individuo y a las empresas a tratar de eludir o incluso alterar las regulaciones a su beneficio. Mientras más normas se escriben, se ponen más esfuerzo en cabildear al Congreso y a agencias reguladoras para emendar dichas normas y beneficiar a ciertos grupos de intereses dejando a muchos otros con más cargas o simplemente fuera del mercado por completo. Aún más frustrante son los estudios que muestran que muchas de estas normas son ineficaces y no logran los beneficios por los cuales se crearon e implementaron. Los legisladores deben examinar las regulaciones nuevas y también las existentes para asegurarse de que cada una sea necesaria, favorable para el mercado, rentable y beneficiosa en la vida de las personas.
