Home Sharing Ban Would Hurt Families and the Economy

(Las Vegas, NV)— The Las Vegas City Council will soon consider a proposal to ban home sharing in the city going forward. Despite the tight restrictions on home sharing currently in place, about 500,000 people stayed in short term rentals in the Las Vegas area, according to one estimate.

Ronnie Najarro, Deputy State Director of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

“Home sharing is a valuable tool to help Latino families and others build and save for a better future. By offering a valuable service to tourists who support the local economy with their dollars, homeowners can earn and fund their priorities – be it education, health care, or something else. This helps the homeowners, Las Vegas tourists, and our local economy. It supports Las Vegas jobs. Home sharing is already heavily restricted. To roll it back further be a tremendous barrier that limits opportunity. We call on the City council to reject this ban and stand with hardworking families looking to participate in our modern economy.”
