Facing Uncertain Economic Future, More People Request Unemployment Benefits

(Washington D.C.) – With investors increasingly concerned about global instability, and conflicting indicators about the health of the U.S. economy, it’s not clear whether the months ahead will mean positive news regarding the earnings and Budget s of Hispanic families. While the Leading Economic Index (LEI) for the U.S. increased by a margin of 0.2 percent, its slowing growth rate suggests “weaker growth may be ahead,” according to the Conference Board. This week also brings news of an additional rise of 12,000 people applying for Unemployment -insurance benefits compared to the previous month’s claims. The small gains in the economy seem to not be reaching individuals and families around the country.

Daniel Garza, Executive Director of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

“The Obama administration keeps boasting about a healthy economy but we’re constantly seeing how this is not reflected in the lives of everyday Americans. We’re not seeing a steady recovery, but rather a process of shaky fits and starts. This is doing little to truly help workers, entrepreneurs, and small business owners who are the driving forces in our economy.

Washington needs to see that this over-regulated and Debt -burdened economy has not generated the broadly-shared prosperity for which so many still hold out hope. The president and Congress must work together on reforms that limit Regulation s harming our small business owners, reduce the tax burden on individuals, and enable workers from abroad to contribute fully to the U.S. Let’s develop a plan that provides certainty and stability for all Americans.”
