Congress to Consider Government Funding Measure
Congress Rejects Key Special Interest Requests

(Washington, DC) – Before the end of this week, the House and Senate are expected to vote on legislation to fund the federal government through April 28, 2017. This measure would adhere to the previously-agreed to, bipartisan spending caps on federal discretionary spending. The measure also rejects pressure from a number of special interests to enact legislative favors sought by them. 

Daniel Garza, Executive Director of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

“Congress and the president appear set to come together on an agreement that American taxpayers can live with. The bill Congress will consider does not change the rules to allow multinational companies to benefit from massive, new taxpayer-subsidized loans through the Export-Import bank. It does not create new taxpayer bailouts for insurers who lost money under the health care law. And it does not exceed the bipartisan spending caps previously agreed to by Congress and the president. These are positive steps.

In the next year, Congress should work with the new president on measures that promote economic opportunity while curbing excessive and wasteful government spending.”
