5 things you probably didn’t know about the GOP’s “˜Real World’ couple: Sean Duffy and Rachel Campos-Duffy

Red Alert Politics By Katie LaPotin March 15, 2013

Chances are you’ve probably heard of Sean Duffy. He’s that lumberjack Congressman from Wisconsin who once upon a time starred on MTV’s “The Real World.” Maybe you’ve heard of his wife, Rachel Campos-Duffy, as well: She’s a frequent contributor on ABC’s “The View” as well as a former contestant on the hit MTV show.

Sean and Rachel took part in a “conversation” panel at CPAC Friday afternoon, where they spent a few minutes answering questions about their lives and what really matters to them.

Here are five things you may not have known about Mr. and Mrs. Duffy:

1. They weren’t actually on the “Real World” at the same time.

Rachel and Sean originally appeared on the MTV show in different seasons: Rachel was on “Real World: San Francisco” in 1994 and Sean was on “Real World: Boston” in 1997. The couple met when they were picked by MTV to star in the first season of “Road Rules: All Stars” in 1998.

2. Rachel had the pleasure of meeting Congressman Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) before her husband did.

Rachel, an outspoken conservative from her days in college at Arizona State University, joked with the audience about how she met the future vice presidential nominee at a conference sponsored by the late Jack Kemp when she was 22. According to Sean, Ryan often reminds him of that fact.

3. Rachel is an outspoken advocate for Hispanic outreach

A Hispanic from a Democratic family, Campos-Duffy works with the Libre Initiative, an organization that works to increase economic freedom and prosperity among Hispanic Americans through free enterprise, responsibility and a constitutionally limited government.

4. Shh…Sean has a speed axe in his DC office.

Besides showing off his lumberjack skills in many of his campaign ads, including this one, Duffy keeps a six-pop razor-sharp Australian speed axe in his DC office. “The Capitol police haven’t said anything,” he said.

5. Rachel is a contender to replace Joy Behar on “The View.”

She also appeared on “The Price is Right” and is a commentator for NBC’s “The Today Show.” In fact, it was on the show’s blog that Campos-Duffy first expressed her feelings about Beyoncé’s 2013 Superbowl performance.
