Dreamers, TPS Immigrants Ring NASDAQ Opening Bell to Kick off Immigrant Heritage Month

(Arlington, VA) – This morning Stand Together and The LIBRE Initiative joined with Microsoft and a broad range of partners to bring Dreamers and other immigrants to New York City to ring the NASDAQ Opening Bell and celebrate Immigrant Heritage Month. Today these immigrants – including both Dreamers and recipients of Temporary Protected Status (TPS)will meet with business and community leaders to discuss the many ways immigrants help shape America’s future for all. They will also discuss how the limitations they face – because of a failure to reform the nation’s immigration laws – continue to be barriers in the way of them reaching their full potential.

Companies and organizations collaborating on this effort include:

Microsoft

Facebook

National Immigration Forum

FWD.us

US Chamber of Commerce

IBM

Americans for Prosperity

Daniel Garza, President of The LIBRE Initiative, and Jorge Lima, Vice President for Immigration for Stand Together, released the following statement:

“We are gratified to have the opportunity to work with so many enthusiastic partners to celebrate the many contributions from immigrants towards America’s success. The stories of immigrants are intertwined with America and together will ensure that America’s best days are still ahead. But while immigration is good for our country, our current system is not. Earlier this year we joined with willing partners to bring Dreamers to Washington to call for reform of our broken system. Now we are pleased to have the opportunity to bring them to New York City – one of the focal points of our economy as well as an illustration of the incredible cultural dynamism that is America – to highlight the need for change.

“These talented young people want to help build a better and stronger America. All they’re asking for is an end to the uncertainty that our broken laws create. We’re glad to help them get that message heard.”
