Daniel Garza Delivers Memorial Day Message

(Washington, D.C.) – On May 30th, Americans will commemorate Memorial Day.

Daniel Garza, Executive Director of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

“In 1863 President Abraham Lincoln saluted those brave soldiers who gave ‘the last full measure of devotion’ to preserve the Union and end slavery. But in doing so, he called on we, the living, to resolve that those who have died ‘shall not have died in vain.’ This Memorial Day – and each Memorial Day – as we call to mind the millions who have died for the freedoms we enjoy, let us again resolve to cherish and preserve those freedoms, which have served our nation so well. All Americans – Hispanic and otherwise – are the custodians of a legacy that is unique in history: a nation founded on equality before the law, with a government whose powers are strictly curtailed to guarantee the freedom of the people. We must not lose that.”
