(Arlington, VA) – This week the House of Representatives voted on H.R. 4760, the Securing America’s Future Act, and failed to pass it. While it was expected that the House would subsequently consider H.R. 6136, the Border Security and Immigration Reform Act, that is no longer clear.
Daniel Garza, president of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:
“It would be a mistake for Congress to try to ignore the issues of immigration and the status of the Dreamers. Our immigration system is complex and inefficient – built on laws that have not been updated in decades. The American people want enhanced border security and protection for the Dreamers. In the longer term we must address the future flow of immigration, to ensure that America is prioritizing the admission of those who will contribute positively to our society.
We have always said that neither party can define immigration reform – it will require compromise. Leaders in both parties must reach across the lines to get this done, now. Tying this debate to political outcomes will only delay important action that the country needs.”
