Colorado Congressional Delegation Is Right to Urge IRS to Treat TABOR Payments as Non-Taxable Income: LIBRE

Colorado Congressional Delegation Is Right to Urge IRS to Treat TABOR Payments as Non-Taxable Income: LIBRE

The LIBRE Initiative Applauds Delegation & Strongly Supports TABOR

(Denver, CO) – Today, The LIBRE Initiative, an organization committed to empowering the Hispanic community, applauded the Colorado congressional delegation for sending the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) a bipartisan letter urging the agency to continue treating Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR) payments as non-taxable income.

Angel Merlos, strategic director for The LIBRE Initiative, issued the following statement:

“While we are pleased to see a swift response from our congressional delegation – Republicans and Democrats alike – condemning possible IRS plans to tax our TABOR refunds as taxable income, it’s concerning that IRS agents are even considering coming after more of our hard-earned money.

For many Coloradans – including many in the Latino community, TABOR refunds are an important part of their family budget – especially at a time when there are many who are struggling to make ends meet and put money aside for a rainy-day fund.

We urge lawmakers in Washington to continue resisting any efforts from the IRS to treat TABOR refunds as taxable income.”
