Clinton: President Obama Should Honor His Commitment

Report: Rollout Came Despite "Limitless" Security Risks

(Washington, D.C.) – Amidst new reports that raise doubts about the security of the enrollment website for the Affordable Care Act (ACA) also known as Obamacare – former President Bill Clinton today called on President Obama to "honor his commitment." When commenting on the millions of Americans whose policies are being canceled due to the law, Clinton said, "The president should honor the commitment the federal government made to those people and let them keep what they got."

Additionally, recent reports raise concerns about the security of Healthcare.gov. It has been reported that  Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Tony Trenkle, wrote a memo in September warning that due to two sensitive, high-risk issues with the site, "the threat and risk potential (to the system) is limitless."

Trenkle was supposed to sign off on security of the site by October 1, but instead the CMS administrator signed off on that certification without the required top-to-bottom security tests. Trenkel later announced his resignation. It has now been revealed that the official chiefly responsible for building the site was never made aware of this security warning.

More testimony regarding the questionable security of the site is expected in Congress this week.

Daniel Garza, Executive Director of The LIBRE Initiative released the following statement:

"President Clinton is right to insist that the Administration deliver on the promise made many times over. Millions of Americans – as well as Members of Congress – supported the law because it was supposed to expand coverage without taking it away from those who already had it. Instead, millions are losing their policies, the enrollment numbers are far below what was expected, and the security of peoples' personal information on the website is now of paramount concern.

No doubt the problems with the law go beyond the website – without serious bipartisan action, people will continue losing access to policies, doctors, and potentially to life-saving care. It is important that the President lead on this issue."
