Arizona Approves Empowerment Scholarship Accounts

Arizona Approves Empowerment Scholarship Accounts

(Washington, D.C.) – Yesterday the legislature of the State of Arizona gave final approval to legislation that makes all students eligible to take part in the state’s Empowerment Scholarship Program. According to press reports, the measure will provide approximately $4,400 per year for most participants, which may be used at the school they determine best matches their educational needs.  The legislation will save state taxpayers an estimated $3.4 million by 2021

Daniel Garza, President of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

“It’s gratifying that Governor Ducey and Arizona lawmakers have listened to Latino families – and others – who have been calling for better schools and greater educational opportunity. The universal ESA program approved yesterday will empower families to choose a school that best meets their child’s educational needs. For the many students trapped in failing schools, it offers an opportunity at a better education – which Latinos know is critical to achieving the American Dream. This is great news.”
