Americans Call for Tax Reform

(Washington, D.C.) – The Ways and Means Chairman recently expressed his strong support forrestructuring the current taxation system, with a longer-range tax code and rate reductions for businesses in particular. This commitment to tax reform comes as the latest attempt to bring to the table an alternative to President Obama’s tax plan. Under the president’s plan, half of middle-income earners will see a tax increase that averages nearly $300 per year, according to an analysis by the left-leaning Tax Policy Center. The plan would also increase spending by an additional $75 billion over the previously agreed to limits. In 2014, the federal government collected $3 trillion, the highest amount in U.S. history.

Rachel Campos-Duffy, National Spokesperson for The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

“Americans overwhelmingly support reform of our current taxation system. We realizeit isn’t working, and strongly believe the current system is complex, unfair, and corrupt. Simplifying the tax code — and thereby promoting economic growth — would be a great benefit to every hard-working American.

We’ve been experiencing the aftermath of a broken system for far too long. Bringing tax reform to the table for an honest discussion is the first step in improving the system. We hope that policymakers are able to engage in a debate – and eventually come to a consensus – that will bring a simpler and fairer tax code for families and businesses alike.”
