Activist Groups Praise States’ Leadership on Border Security; Urge to Lawmakers to Act on Immigration Reforms

PRESS RELEASE 04/22/2022
Phoenix, AZ – Today, Americans for Prosperity-Arizona and The LIBRE Initiative-Arizona praised Governor Doug Ducey for participating in the American Governors’ Border Strike Force.

The strike force brings together 25 states to collaborate on cybersecurity and information sharing to carry out an essential task the federal government has failed to carry out: securing the US border with Mexico.

AFP-Arizona State Director Stephen Shadegg and Fernando Gonzales, community engagement director for The LIBRE Initiative, made the following statement:

“We commend Governor Ducey for his leadership in this program and for piloting Arizona’s original Border Strike Force. It is vital that we not only secure the border, but also disrupt the flow of harmful narcotics coming over the border. As states act to fill this gap, it is more important than ever that the federal government move to build consensus on this critical issue.

One of the ways policymakers can do this is to consider supporting the Bipartisan Border Solutions Act – a bill supported by the National Border Patrol Council that would add hundreds of border patrol agents and establish four or more regional processing centers to address the increased flow of asylum seekers. These processing centers would help expedite consideration of asylum claims and give border security personnel greater bandwidth to do their jobs at apprehending security threats.”
