To Testify Before TX Senate Committee on Education
Austin, TX – Tomorrow, The LIBRE Initiative Executive Director Jorge Lima will testify before the Senate Committee on Education in favor of School Choice, Senate Bill 3 which would secure a universal Education Savings Account program to Texans across the state.
WHEN: Tomorrow, Tuesday, March 21, 2016
TIME: 9:00 AM
WHERE: Sam Houston Building, 440
WHO: Jorge Lima, Executive Director, The LIBRE Initiative
Background:
Education Savings Accounts create the opportunity to empower parents and students to use funds in a pre-approved specified range of education expenses such as tuition at their local school, curriculum, school supplies, tutoring, online learning resources, one on one therapy, etc. These reforms, which have the power to incentivize improvements in public schools as well, are specifically important in our communities. Out of the 918,651 students attending failing schools in Texas, 70 percent are Hispanic or African-American, and 79 percent are economically disadvantaged.
