Local entrepreneur and community organizer Vanessa Faura is a former candidate for Charlotte City Council At-Large. Vanessa is a proud two-time graduate of Queens University of Charlotte and is one course shy from completing her second master's degree in organization development. She received her bachelor’s degree in communications with a minor in psychology in 2006 and her first master’s in strategic communication in 2010.
Vanessa has a passion for family, faith, education and serving her community. Vanessa's position as a wife, student, mother, entrepreneur, community activist, former candidate for public office, and proud leader in the Hispanic community made her uniquely qualified to be named Person of the Year by Norsan Media’s Hola Noticias in December 2013. Vanessa has been actively involved in the community since moving to Charlotte, North Carolina 18 years ago. She spent seven years working for Wells Fargo Bank in wholesale finance. In July 2013, Faura was appointed to North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory’s Advisory Council of Hispanic/Latino Affairs. Vanessa founded the non-profit organization Give Yourself the Opportunity (GYTO) in 2006 to educate local families on the college selection process. Together with her parents and siblings, Vanessa migrated to the U.S. from Lima, Peru when she was 7-years-old.
