Tackling America's Priorities Shouldn't Require Tax Increases
Americans Want Washington to Limit Taxes and Spending
(Washington, D.C.) – The Obama Administration is encouraging Congressional action on proposed legislation to fund transportation and infrastructure. Current federal transportation programs are set to expire this year, and according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) spending on infrastructure is likely to outpace gas tax revenues by $100 billion over the next six years. Some in Washington continue to argue for a gas tax increase to raise this money, but the White House now favors a tax increase of $150 billion on U.S. companies that operate abroad. In a weak economy however, with many families struggling, the tax more/spend more mentality from the Obama Administration is a potential impediment to economic growth.
According to the recently released National Journal/Heartland Monitor poll, 70 percent of Americans believe the country is headed in the wrong direction when it comes to reducing taxes and government spending. People are skeptical of Washington's ability to positively affect their lives and an overwhelming majority believes that the country needs "major changes." With such strong support for fiscal discipline, a large tax increase would show Washington is out of touch with average Americans.

"In 2009, President Obama pushed through Congress a $900 billion economic 'stimulus' bill that they said would help rebuild America's infrastructure and restore economic growth. Five years later, neither has come to pass – and now Washington seeks to impose a huge new tax increase to fund more new spending.
People are already disenchanted with the direction of the country, and a majority is against increasing taxes and spending. Federal tax revenues are already at an all-time high. Instead of raising taxes even more, it's time to focus on eliminating waste, and tackling priorities within a budget that works for the benefit of the people. Instead this administration borrowed and spent $900 billion on broken promises."
