Study Shows Huge Health Insurance Price Spikes Ahead
Law to Increase Number of Uninsured

(Washington, D.C.) – According to a new study on the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, the law will increase the number of uninsured and cause large price increases within the next few years. The average cost of an Obamacare silver plan will increase by more than $4,000 per family in the next 5 years. During that same time period, the number of uninsured in America will increase by more than half a million, the report concludes – due to the increasing cost of health insurance. Additionally, the study also finds that more people will be forced into government-run care (Medicaid), and more Americans will be forced to pay the tax penalty for not complying with the law. The increasing cost of insurance represents a continuation of current trends – in which more and more patients are finding health care premiums and costs are on the rise

The study was done by the University of Minnesota, and is based on a model funded in part by the Department of Health and Human Services. The study builds on the final 2014 enrollment reports recently released by the Obama Administration.

Daniel Garza, Executive Director of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

"The American people were told that the health care law would lower costs, expand coverage, and allow people to keep doctors and policies that they liked. None of these promises has come true, and consumers and patients are dealing with the ramifications every day. Costs are up – and will continue to rise, despite the promises of the law's supporters. Ultimately, this experiment will make health care more unaffordable, eventually pricing more people out of insurance entirely.

If the White House does not take the lead on fixing the many clear problems with the new health care law, consumers will face increasing costs and poorer quality of care. This will hit Hispanics most of all – as this young and healthy demographic bears a disproportionate share of the cost of this regime. It is far past time for a new approach."
