Statement on the President’s Speech on Executive Action

(Washington, D.C.) – This evening President Obama announced that he would take executive action on immigration.

Daniel Garza, Executive Director of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

“While I support the president’s intention to provide relief to the immigrant community, this proposal seems arbitrary, limited in scope, and temporary. No one can guarantee it will not be overturned. Our strong preference is a legislative fix that is sensible, long term, and approved with bipartisan support. Republicans and Democrats should work across the aisle on reforms that promote economic growth, improve enforcement, address the 11 million here without legal status, and provide relief for those brought here as children through no fault of their own. Whatever their intentions, the measures announced tonight make a long-term fix harder to achieve, and that is unfortunate.
