Sebelius Asks Latinos to Prop Up Failing Health Care Law
Study Shows Vast Majority of Young People Save by "Opting Out"

(Washington, D.C.) – Yesterday Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius, conducted a Google Hangout chat to promote the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, in the Hispanic community. She responded to a few previously submitted questions, and asked Latinos to give the law another chance – to try again to enroll, despite problems with the site and the law.

Sebelius did not apologize for the decision – before the launch of the Obamacare websites – to delay work on the Spanish-language site and focus on the English language site. Nor did she seriously address concerns about affordability that are preventing many from purchasing insurance, instead. Latinos in the United States are younger than the general population by a decade – with a median age of just 27. As such, we suffer the brunt of  the inflated prices of insurance policies mandated twofold under Obamacare. A new study shows that 6 out of 7 young adults will actually save money by foregoing insurance off the healthcare exchanges and paying for health care out of pocket.

Daniel Garza, Executive Director of The LIBRE Initiative released the following statement:

"This health care law is a disservice to the Hispanic community. Like all Americans, Hispanics are seeking economic growth and opportunity. And when it comes to health care, we want to be able to keep our doctor, and to choose insurance that meets our needs at reasonable prices. The last thing we need is a costly mandate to purchase policies chosen by Washington, at artificially-inflated prices and prop up a failing system we did not vote for. It's putting our critical health care decisions in the hands of bureaucrats – and it's canceling plans, raising prices, and narrowing choice of doctors."

They are elected to make the right decisions for the people – let's keep them accountable.
