New Poll Shows Waning Latino Support for Health Care Law
Health Care Spending Surges to Fastest Growth in Decades

(Washington, D.C.) – According to a new survey from the Washington Post and ABC News, support for the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, has fallen by 5 points in the last month. The fall among Latinos is even more pronounced – with Hispanic support for the law falling from 57 percent to just 50 percent. This drop comes even as the President claimed credit for an apparent late surge in enrollment under the health care law. This "victory lap" was not sufficient to stop the slide in support for the controversial and costly new system, even among Latinos.

Separately, the Department of Commerce today reported that health care spending is suddenly surging to its fastest growth rate in more than 30 years. The White House has previously claimed that the health care law was bringing about a reduction in health care spending. The stunning increase over the last 6 months is raising concern that the new system may be more likely to lead to an unsustainable spending trend.

Daniel Garza, Executive Director of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

"Supporters of the new health care law have claimed that the debate is over. But in our system of government, that decision is reserved to the people – not to politicians who come and go.

Our health care system needs real reform. Predictably, Obamacare seems to have made things worse. What else could be expected from a centrally-planned regime built on mandates and government control? Overall health care costs are climbing. Premiums are up for millions. Many Latinos are surprised to learn they have no other option than the troubled Medicaid program. Like all Americans, they have had their plans cancelled, lost access to doctors, and are dealing with narrow provider networks and a rising tax penalty imposed on those who do not purchase approved insurance. They recognize that we need to reform the reform. That process should start right away – before these problems grow even worse."

They are elected to make the right decisions for the people – let's keep them accountable.
