LIBRE Applauds House Action on Immigration Reform

Boehner Says Many Members Seek Solution for Undocumented Children of Immigrants

(Washington, D.C.) – Yesterday House Speaker, John Boehner (OH), stated that there was strong support in the House for addressing the children of immigrants who – through no fault of their own – entered or remained in the U.S. without legal authority when they were children. According to press reports, Boehner said "this is about basic fairness. These children were brought here on no accord of their own. And frankly, they are in a very difficult position. And I think many of our members believe that this issue needs to be addressed." The LIBRE Initiative agrees, and calls on Americans who favor immigration reform to express their support through the ESTAMOS CONTIGO campaign.

Daniel Garza, Executive Director of The LIBRE Initiative released the following statement:

"It's encouraging that Speaker Boehner and many in the House recognize the need to reform policies that leave too many young people unable to fully assimilate and give back to the United States – the country they know, love and call home. LIBRE supports a market-driven, employment-based immigration reform that facilitates the full participation of immigrants in our economy. Addressing the children of immigrants is an important part of the broader solution to reform our immigration system. LIBRE's campaign for immigration reform, ESTAMOS CONTIGO , stands with immigrants, job creators, community leaders  and all who support immigration reform that will lead to a more prosperous United States."
