Liberals, Others Should Stop Condescending to Latinos

(Washington, D.C.) – New Mexico gubernatorial candidate Alan Webber recently called on state voters to send Governor Susana Martinez “back to wherever she really came from.” Martinez is the first elected Latina governor in U.S. history, and previously served with distinction as a county District Attorney. While Webber has reportedly apologized for comments he delivered about several other U.S. governors, he has not apologized for these denigrating remarks about Martinez – which he delivered nearly two weeks ago.

Daniel Garza, Executive Director of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

“All too often, liberals condescend to Latinos – behaving as if they are entitled to say what they want and still be supported, based on nothing more than empty promises and their claims of ‘tolerance.’ The fact is, there are more Latino Senators and Governors under the Republican banner than Democrat.

Like many other Americans, Latinos are deeply disappointed with the direction of this country in recent years, and they recognize the need for a different approach. No one can take their support for granted – particularly those who denigrate and condescend to Hispanics – regardless of party.”
