Health Care Amendments, Keystone Pipeline Get Votes
(Washington, D.C.) – This week the House of Representatives will vote on legislation to remove a provision of the Affordable Care Act that has encouraged companies to replace full-time workers with part-time employees. The House is also scheduled to vote to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline. Supporters argue that both of these measures have bipartisan support, and will help promote job creation and wage growth – particularly among low and middle-income Americans. The White House has threatened to veto both of these measures, without recommending alternate proposals for Congress to debate.

“The new Congress is right to focus on measures to encourage economic growth, and to address the negative effects of the new health care law. The American people clearly recognize that the growth of costly federal regulations and mandates has made it harder for too many people to find work, grow their wages, and build a better future for themselves and their families. This week’s debate is particularly important to Hispanics – 1.4 million of whom have been forced into part-time work instead of full-time employment.
This should not be a one-sided debate. Supporters of the health care law have long said that it should be ‘fixed,’ but have proposed no amendments. The Keystone XL application has been stalled for 6 years – without being approved or rejected by the administration. It is time for both sides to advance new ideas to ensure more Americans enjoy the benefits of strong economic growth.”
