The American Dream is Alive in the Hispanic Community
(Washington, D.C.) – The majority of Hispanics still believe the American Dream is achievable, according to a poll by Atlantic Media and Pearson. People who have immigrated in recent years have seen the success of their predecessors and believe that “anyone who works hard still has a fair chance to succeed and live a comfortable life.” However, with new regulations and hurdles being added every day, Hispanic entrepreneurship is in jeopardy. While the Hispanic business startup rate is two times the national average, it has fallen steadily over the last decade.
Daniel Garza, Executive Director of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:
“The Hispanic community is not only resourceful, it’s also resilient – and we continue to dream great dreams. But opportunity is not the same it was 20 or 30 years ago. New barriers to opportunity have crippled small businesses and entrepreneurs all around the country. Still, our community is fighting and climbing those hurdles, and figuring out how to make a better future for themselves and their families.
We want to make the American Dream achievable for the Hispanic community – and all others. We want to remove those barriers to success, like heavy regulations on small businesses, unnecessary occupational licensing, and short-sighted rules that lock the next generation into failing schools.
