FREEDOM PARTNERS, AMERICANS FOR PROSPERITY AND THE LIBRE INITIATIVE STATEMENT ON DREAMERS

(Arlington, VA) – Following comments made this morning by President Donald Trump that “DACA is dead,” Freedom Partners and its grassroots partners, Americans for Prosperity and The LIBRE Initiative, expressed disappointment and called for immediate action.

Freedom Partners Executive Vice President James Davis issued the following statement:

“The importance of reaching an agreement on a permanent solution for Dreamers cannot be overstated. Pointing fingers, shifting blame and, ultimately, abandoning efforts to reach a consensus would be irresponsible and represent a grave injustice to those who know no other home than the United States. A deal is within reach – permanency for Dreamers and $25 billion to enhance border security – it is time to seize it.

“Reaching a permanent solution will remain a top priority, and we will continue to be aggressively engaged on this issue until President Trump and congressional leaders put aside the political theatrics and do what is best for Dreamers and for our country. It’s never too late to do the right thing.”

AFP Chief Government Affairs Officer Brent Gardner issued the following statement:

“It’s shameful that Republicans and Democrats can’t come together on a deal that gives $25 billion for border security and a permanent solution for Dreamers. This is why Americans are so frustrated with Washington. There’s a clear path forward that all sides should be able to support, yet instead of finding a solution, Washington is back to the same political games that allowed this problem to become a crisis. We urge Congress and the White House to put politics aside and do what’s right for the country.”

The LIBRE Initiative President Daniel Garza issued the following statement:

“The president’s recent statements on DACA are extremely disappointing. In January he proposed a bold plan to allow 1.8 million Dreamers to obtain U.S. citizenship. Members of both parties in Congress have shown a willingness to provide billions in funding for border security. The Dreamers are contributing to our economy and our communities. They are students, workers, and members of our Armed Services. It’s time to correct the injustice that is keeping them in legal limbo. Instead of giving up on them, President Trump and Congress must double down and demonstrate a sense of urgency to make a deal that would provide certainty for Dreamers, and security for our nation.”
