(Washington, D.C.) – Today President Trump nominated Judge Neil Gorsuch to serve on the United States Supreme Court.

Daniel Garza, President of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

We believe that If confirmed to the Supreme Court, Judge Gorsuch will interpret the law and the Constitution faithfully, rather than seeking to erode the checks on government power that it provides. Originalism is essential to minimize lawmaking by judicial fiat, and necessary to keep unelected federal judges from usurping that power from the legislative branch. Judge Gorsuch believes judges should interpret laws based on their text, has served in the Justice Department, clerked for two Supreme Court justices, and is an excellent, competent candidate to fill the seat. We believe that with this pick, Judge Gorsuch will help ensure that our constitutional rights are protected, while advancing the foundations of a free society through the rule of law.”
