Cortez Masto Would Deny Educational Opportunity to Latino Families

(Washington, D.C.) Yesterday, former Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto declared her opposition to the state’s system of Education Savings Accounts.

Daniel Garza, Executive Director of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

“It’s clear from the data that educational choice benefits Latino families, whose children are too often trapped in failing schools. Education Savings Accounts are an important tool for creating opportunity for everyone, by enabling more kids to opt for a better education. Hispanic families understand very well that a quality education is more important than it has ever been to future success, particularly in an increasingly competitive global economy. Nevada’s ESA program enables us to do just that.

Catherine Cortez Masto is lining up against Latino families and in support of special interests. She is telling Nevada’s families that our children’s education is not as important as protecting the teacher’s unions. Hispanic children are trapped in overcrowded and failing schools as a result of the system Cortez Masto is defending. Millions of Nevada students, now and in the future, will be deprived of the opportunity to succeed. She could not be more wrong.”
