Coalition Letter from Latino Groups Thanks Governor Martinez for Occupational Licensing Reforms

(Albuquerque, NM)—Today, The LIBRE Initiative released a coalition letter to thank Governor Susana Martinez for acting to reduce unnecessary occupational licensing barriers that stand in the way of hardworking Latino families in New Mexico. Joining on this letter are a range of Latino organizations who share a goal of empowering Hispanic communities. The signers call on members of the state legislature to secure these reforms into law and stand ready to work with anyone to reduce barriers to opportunity for Hispanic communities.

Below is an excerpt of the letter:

“For far too long, occupational licensing rules have been a barrier for Latino workers looking for opportunities to succeed in the workforce and secure a brighter future for themselves and their families. Occupational licensing requirements can often unjustifiably force people to complete months of expensive training, pay fees or pass exams before they’re allowed to work.”
