Hispanics Embrace Innovation, Variety

Variety is the spice of life, as the old saying goes – and in an economy where enterprising individuals are free to test, experiment, and innovate with different products and services, we all benefit from an abundance of options that grow to meet our distinct needs.  Today's wildly popular and innovative companies, and the variety of services they bring to our daily lives, are embraced and in some cases, even demanded.

A prime example of a technological breakthrough that is making a big impact in the day-to-day lives of many is the advent of online banking.  A recent survey by JP Morgan Chase shows that Hispanics in particular favor online banking for its ease and security.  More than two-thirds of U.S. Hispanics use their banking app while at work, and they also turn to this type of technology at a higher rate than other demographics, according to the study.

Mobile banking isn't the only online innovation that Hispanics are more inclined to use. Online grocery shopping has taken off, with a whopping 73% of Latinos using the Internet to shop.  According to the survey, while it is mostly out of convenience, the technology does allow many to access a larger variety of foods and products that might not be available at local, brick-and-mortar grocery stores.

Then, of course, there is also Uber.  The ridesharing company brings increased variety in how some get from point A to point B.  If you live in a city that offers the service, the option to hail a driver on-demand fits nicely into the pre-existing mix of cabs, train, walking or biking. With Spanish-language Uber making its debut earlier this year, the convenience, reliability, and safety of this innovation is a welcome addition for a diverse range of customers.

These are just a few of the countless recent examples where innovations have made life more exciting, safer, easier, more comfortable – and better.  But why stop here? It is imperative that the United States preserve its economic freedom – not stifle it through regulations and a heavy-handed government.  Creative business owners need to be able to continue to thrive and experiment, and by doing so will bring us increased variety to our lives.
